The State Duma Deputy Michael Degtyarev (LDPR) is preparing a draft law on amendments to the RF Criminal code, stipulating the tightening of punishment under Article 207 “Obviously false report on the terrorism act”. The legislator proposes to double the penalties and terms of punishment, provided for in Article 207. Besides, it is considered necessary to increase the punishment for telephone terrorists in the Public Chamber — the PC member Vladimir Slepak sent a letter (there is in “News”) to the head of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kolokoltsev, which also urged the Minister to initiate the tightening of sanctions under Article 207 of the RF Criminal code.
In accordance with Paragraph 1 of Article 207, for the obviously untrue report on preparing explosion, arson or other actions, menacing with death of people or damage, it is provided responsibility in the form of a fine in the amount of up to 200 thousand rubles or the salary or other income of the condemned for a period of up to 18 months, or compulsory works for a term of up to 480 hours, or correctional labor for a term from 1 year to 2 years, or restraint of liberty for a term of up to 3 years, or forced labor for up to 3 years, or arrest for a term from 3 to 6 months, or deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 3 years.
In accordance with the Federal law No. 98 from May 5th, 2014 a new paragraph has appeared in Article 207, which introduced the punishment for the crime according to Paragraph 1, but which also has caused major damage or other serious consequences have occurred. For an offence under Paragraph 2 of Article 207 of the RF Criminal code it is provided punishment in the form of a fine of up to 1 million rubles or the salary or other income of the condemned for a period from 18 months to 3 years or deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 5 years.
The current wording of Article 207 scares criminals not so much and needs to be reviewed. In the upcoming draft all the fines and terms of punishment will be doubled.
